Description
The PH 3/2 wall lamp is part of a three-shade series, which currently includes 30 lamps, with 3 designed for outdoor use. As such, PH didn’t just design a single lamp but created a complete system—over the years, approximately a thousand different models have been produced. The series is comprehensive, including table lamps, floor lamps, and wall lamps, as well as a variety of chandeliers, which were very popular in the 1930s for illuminating private homes with high ceilings. The combination choices are innumerable. These lamps come in different colors and are available in various sizes. The first lampshades were made of metal, with the bottom painted in colors such as white, gold, or silver, depending on whether diffused, warm, or cool light was desired. Glass was later introduced into the three-shade gradient system. In addition to directing light downward, the glass fixtures also illuminated the room. PH was the first to approach lighting with a scientific research method, basing his designs on the logarithmic spiral. By using this logarithmic spiral-based design, he achieved even light distribution across the entire curve of the lampshade. This uniform light distribution, combined with the diffuse reflection provided by the glass, effectively controls glare and shadows. Since the lampshade is set at a certain distance from the light source, each shade equally reduces the amount of light. PH lamp models are named based on the size of the shades. Each top shade has a corresponding middle and lower shade. In the “pure” models, such as 2/2, the top shade size is approximately 20 cm, with a corresponding lower shade. The PH 3/2 wall lamp has a top shade of about 30 cm, but the lower shades use the 2/2 type. The “hybrid” models were introduced to meet the needs of chandeliers hung at lower heights. This system is also used for wall lamps, floor lamps, and table lamps.
